The Trust

The Plantation Garden Preservation Trust (PGPT) is a registered charity (no. 801095) and was formed in 1980.

Our patron is Sir Roy Strong, former director of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The Trust administers this Grade II English Heritage registered garden (actually owned by The Preachers' Money Charity, a 17th Century endowment) and is in constant need of contributions to enable its continued restoration.

During the past 4 years, in addition to the thousands of hours worked by unpaid volunteers, £50,000 has been spent on restoration and improvement.

Our sole sources of income are annual subscriptions, entrance fees and donations.

The garden is almost entirely run by volunteers. Not everyone is a gardener. The ladies who bake the cakes for Sundays share their enthusiasm for the garden with those who maintain the hard landscaping, keep up with the paperwork or produce the members magazine. Every skill is appreciated.

The committee meet regularly and sub groups plan the next year's planting schemes or organise the fête.

New discoveries are still being made in the garden. The upper level paths have been rediscovered and are currently being made safe for future public access.

The Plantation Garden Preservation Trust (PGPT) is entirely independent of the Beeches Hotel although the properties are adjacent to one another.
